Axum

People can witness the wealth and importance of the ancient Axumite civilization once they find themselves in Ethiopian’s northern border. The Axumite kingdom was the most powerful state between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia starting from the 4th century B.C. Axum is one of the UNESCO registered world heritage which houses the ruins of an ancient city with monolithic obelisks, giant stela, tombs, castles, and Our Lady Mary of Zion Church. All these heritages are the living witness of the Aksum Empire originating in the 4th century B.C.

You can use the road or air transport to get to Axum. Ethiopian Airlines flies to Axum on daily basis. Buses from Addis Ababa take a minimum of three days to travel via Dessie and Mekele. Selam Bus, Sky bus, Limalimo bus, Ethio bus, Golden bus, Postal bus, Abay bus and other public buses travel daily to and from the Addis Ababa to Axum and vice versa.
