Itinerary

Day 1. Addis Ababa

Pick up from airport/Hotel / Home or group meeting point and you will visit the National Museum that exhibits numerous antiquates, historical relics, archaeological and pale-ontological objects including the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy; one of the fine Ethiopian Orthodox Churches, St. George Cathedral that contains several interesting modern paintings and mosaics St. George Cathedral; Mercato – biggest open market of its kind in Africa and the commanding panoramic view point Mount Entoto which offers the stupendous view of the city. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2. Melka Kunture, Adadi Mariam and Tiya Stella

Situated at 60km south-west of Addis Ababa Melka-Kunture is a famous archaeological site where fossils of prehistory age as well as stone tools dating 1.5 million years have been discovered. Few km drives this point can be reached Adadi Mariam Cave Church believed to date back to the 13th century and gives a good indication of the Lalibela rock- hewn churches of the 12th century. classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, where we can see the northernmost example of a peculiar type of engraved, standing stelae which stretch across parts of southern Ethiopia. These stelae are believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries and are almost certainly grave markers – recent excavations at Tiya have revealed the remains of young people of both sexes, aged between 18 to 30 years old buried in fetal positions. Back to Addis for overnight

Day 3. Debre Libanos And Blue Nile George

If you think Grand Canyon is impressive, try paying a visit to its Africa cousin – Blue Nile Gorge. Situated 210km north of Addis Ababa and with about one mile width and depth, the Blue Nile Gorge is one of the most spectacular gorges in the world comparable in scale to the Arizona’s version. On the way after 100km drive is the renowned monastery of Debre Libanos, founded in the 13th century in a magnificent 700m-high canyon. Debre Libanos is an important monastic center for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, the monastery there was founded by the renowned 13th century mystic, Saint Teklehaimanot and there is a small cave near the church (which is of recent construction) where he is said to have stood for seven years on one leg, until the other wasted away and dropped off.
